"I think it's a good thing that the FAA actually acknowledged that they were not following the guidance that they put out last year, but it's extremely sad that it takes an accident for that to become public knowledge."

Source: Andrew Cantwell, regional vice-president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, commenting on the FAA's admission Tuesday that it knew the tower at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, KY was understaffed -- and that another controller was needed on the weekend overnight shift. Only one controller was on duty in the tower when Comair Flight 5191 overran runway 26 at the airport, resulting in the loss of 49 people onboard the CRJ100.
