S-76 Mishap An Act Of Terror?

Witness Reports Hearing Explosions Before Helo Spun Into The Sea

Could the downing of a Sikorsky S-76 in the Baltic have been a deliberate act of terror?

An Estonian TV station quotes a witness to Wednesday's watery crash, which killed all 14 people on board, as saying he heard two "plops" -- similar to explosions -- just before the aircraft spun into the sea.

Matti Ojase, the captain of a port pilot boat in Tallin, said he saw no smoke or fire as the Copterline-owned aircraft went down.

As ANN reported in real time Wednesday, the mishap claimed the lives of several Finns, Estonians and two Americans.

Search teams in the water between Helsinki and Tallin say they've found an object resembling the S-76 lying on the floor of the Gulf of Finland. They hope to positively identify then raise the wreckage over the next few days. Only then will they be able to determine the exact cause of Wednesday's crash.
