Aero-News Alert: LIMITED NOTAM Services Return Following FAA Systems Failure

System "Crashed" At 2045 EDT Thursday

ANN REALTIME NEWS ALERT, 05.23.08 1800 EDT: If any of our readers are looking for an IT job... may we suggest applying with the FAA? It's taken most of the day, but some Notice to Airmen information is now available, following a massive systems failure late Thursday night.

Lockheed Martin warns listed FAA NOTAM information remains unreliable, however, and advises pilots to check with Flight Service for NOTAMs issued after 2045 EDT Thursday.

Pilots may also go here to double-check for any new NOTAMS that may still be unlisted, though Lockheed warns this list does not include Obstruction Light Outage NOTAMS, and may not be complete and accurate. Still, it's better than nothing.

It's not yet known when the affected FAA server will return to full, uninterrupted operation.

Original Report

0901 EDT: Our good friends at AOPA have alerted us to a potentially serious aeronautical hazard. The FAA's (NOT Lockheed Martin's) NOTAM server has crashed. The system that produces such critical information as those Security TFRs we all know and love suffered a computer failure at or around midnight and has not been put back into service. As a result, important information may NOT be available to aviators.

The limited "official" info that is available states this:

US NOTAM'S OFFICE IS OTS

CURRENT NOTAM LIST MAY NOT BE UP TO DATE.
PILOTS ARE CAUTIONED TO VERIFY THE STATUS OF NOTAMS & AP CONDITIONS WITH ATC AND/OR LOCAL AIRPORT AUTHORITIES.

Be sure to check with all available resources for needed information until the FAA can bring this system back into service. We'll do our best to keep you updated...
