Court Orders Gupta Family To Return Business Jet

Grounds Plane Other Than For Ferry Flight to Lanseria International Airport

A court in South Africa has grounded a Bombardier Global 6000 business jet leased by the the Gupta family and ordered that it be delivered to Lanseria International Airport by early April.

The Guptas had a lease agreement with EDC and Stoneriver for the aircraft, but a legal dispute has arisen over the lease. The petitioners to the South Gauteng High Court asked for the grounding to prevent the airplane from being moved while its tracking system is deactivated.

According to the order issued Monday by High Court Judge Fayeeza Kathree-Setiloane, the plane is to be delivered to Lanseria airport within 15 days, along with all appliances, components and necessary equipment. She also grounded the plane other than for the ferry flight to the airport.

According to the order, if the plane is not returned by the deadline, its registration could be immediately cancelled. The Guptas have also been ordered to pay court costs and attorneys' fees.

Judge Kathree-Setiloane told News24.com that failure to comply with the order would result in contempt of court proceedings being initiated against the Gupta's personally, as well as their business interests that leased the jet.
