Santa Gives The Reindeer A Break And Flies A Helo

Delivers Cook Children's Hosptial Chopper In Time For Christmas

When Cook Children's Hospital's new EC145 "Teddy Bear Transport" arrived at the medical center Tuesday, a jolly old elf in a red suit was at the controls.

"Happy new helicopter," Santa said as he landed on the grounds outside the hospital. "Ho, ho ho! The elves enjoyed making it!"

Actually, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the new helo cost $7.1 million. The Teddy Bear Transport program brings about 2,000 critically ill children to the hospital each year.

The new EC145 is large enough to allow parents to ride with their kids when they are being transported. "Now parents can stay with their child," said Cook Children's Medical Center President Nancy Cychol. "Before we didn't have enough room."

As for Santa, he had to high-tail it back north.  There's this other flight he's got scheduled ...
