Vietnam To Spend $5B On Airports, Terminals

Modernization and development plan responds to increase pax and cargo transport requirements

The government of Vietnam has announced a plan to modernize and/or develop 52 airports and air travel terminals in the country, at a cost of some $5 billion.

The project has been announced in response to the increase demands of air cargo and airline passenger traffic at the country's airports. The traffic continues to increase, and the facilities are simply not designed for the additional traffic.

In addition to the funds, the Vietnam Aviation Administration stated that they will also need some 20,000 hectares of land in order to expand the existing facilities and build to suit.

The country currently has 19 airports, including three international port of entry facilities and 16 domestic airports, on a total of some 3,000 hectares of land.
