American Eagle RJs Involved In Two O'Hare Incidents

One Runway Excursion, One Taxiway Collision

Chicago O'Hare has not been a lucky place for American Eagle regional jets the past couple of days. Two of the airplanes have been involved in incidents, but fortunately none with any injuries.

Thursday, an American Eagle flight bound for Tulsa, OK, returned to O'Hare after its pilot reported an issue with the landing gear shortly after takeoff. The airplane managed to land safely about 0830 CDT, but skidded off the runway and "touched the grass" before it was steered back onto the pavement, accordint to a report appearing in USA Today. None of the 31 people on board the regional jet was injured, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The day before, a different American Eagle regional jet ... this one an E140, was taxiing towards its gate when its tail was nudged by an EVA Air Cargo 747, according to a report in Bloomberg News. There were 18 passengers and crew aboard the Embraer, and two crew members on board the jumbo jet freighter. That incident occurred at about 1300 CDT Wednesday.

The incident happened in an area of the airport that did not affect operations, and no delays were reported while the two airplanes were sorted out. There was no estimate of the extent of the damage to either airplane.
