Aero-TV: SAFE Symposium 2011 -- Randy Babbitt Q&A (Part 1)

The FAA's Boss Takes Questions From A TOUGH Crowd

You have to give FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt credit for guts... as he stood in front of well over a hundred of the finest aviation educators and instructors in the nation and took questions... no holds barred. It was fun, gutsy and tremendously educational... and pretty darned frank, too. The questions followed his address entitled, “Meeting the Training Challenges of the Second Century of Flight” on the second day of the two-day SAFE Symposium.

The event where this took place set the stage for the very frank Q&A... the 2011 Pilot Training Reform Symposium, held in Atlanta, GA, May 4-5. Over the course of this intense event, the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) proposed a collaborative effort among OEMs, courseware providers, organizations/trade associations, university aviation programs and FBOs, insurance providers, and regulatory agencies to reform our national flight training system.

J. Randolph 'Randy' Babbitt was sworn in as the FAA’s sixteenth administrator on June 1, 2009. He began his aviation career as a pilot, flying 25 years for Eastern Airlines. A skilled negotiator, Babbitt served as President and CEO for US ALPA, the world’s largest professional organization of airline pilots. While at ALPA, he championed the “One Level of Safety” initiative implemented in 1995 to improve safety standards across the industry.

Join ANN as we (and a number of other aviators) put a few questions before the FAA's Administrator... no holds barred.
