Helicopter, Cessna 152 Collide In Mid Air Over Aylesbury, U.K.

Four People Fatally Injured In The Accident

Two aircraft, a helicopter and a Cessna 152, collided in midair during training flights Friday near Aylesbury, U.K. Four people, two on board each aircraft, were fatally injured.

According to the U.K. newspaper The Independent, the student pilot in the helicopter was 18-year-old Saavan Mundae from West London. The helicopter instructor was Captain Mike Green, senior instructor at Helicopter Services, a company based at Wycombe Air Park. He reportedly had some 30 years experience.

Few details about the accident are available. The accident appears to have occurred in uncontrolled airspace. One controller writing on an online forum for air traffic controllers said that the Cessna was descending. The BBC reports that both aircraft were based at Wycombe Air Park. A joint investigation by Thames Valley Police and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been launched.

An off-duty firefighter witnessed the accident from his garden, according to the report. Mitch Missen said he looked up just as the aircraft collided. He heard a loud bang and saw falling debris.

The aircraft went down in a wooded area near Waddesdon Estate. A drone was launched in an effort to locate the aircraft wreckage.

The accident occurred about 20 miles from the airport, according to the report.
