Security Cameras Capture Kansas City Police Helo Emergency Landing

Aircraft Reportedly Had Mechanical Problems, Landed Near An Occupied Car

A Kansas City (MO) police helicopter made an emergency landing Thursday in a city street intersection about 2030 local time, and it was captured by security cameras on a nearby building.

The helo came down at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Elmwood near a dentist's office where there were 19 security cameras operating. One of those captured the entire landing sequence, according to a report from television station WDAF. The video shows the aircraft skidding to a stop on the city street.

The pilots of the aircraft were uninjured, and they made a textbook emergency landing in the highway near an occupied car. The pilot can be seen in the video getting out of the aircraft and directing traffic away from the helo until emergency responders arrived.

The aircraft was towed to a hangar. The KC police department says it has a second helicopter it will put into service while the accident is investigated.
