Full-Motion Device Built For Delta Air Lines
CAE announced this week a Boeing 777 full-flight simulator the
company designed and manufactured for Delta Air Lines has become
the world's first-ever simulator to achieve Level D certification,
the highest qualification for flight simulators, under the Federal
Aviation Administration's (FAA) new Part 60 rule.
The FAA's National Simulator Program aims to improve aviation
safety through the application of regulations and standards
governing the qualification of flight simulation training devices
(FSTD). At the end of May, the FAA implemented more standardized
and stringent qualification requirements for initial and continuing
use of FSTDs under the Part 60 rule.
"We are proud to be the first sponsor in the world of a Part 60
qualified simulator," said Steve Sage, General Manager of Simulator
Support for Delta Air Lines. "We are committed to the highest
levels of aviation safety and to offering our pilots the highest
fidelity simulation equipment for our pilot training program. This
achievement is a testament to CAE's flexibility and
responsiveness."
The CAE-built 7000 Series Boeing 777-300ER FFS was delivered to
Delta's training center in Atlanta, GA in May and achieved the
Level D qualification from the FAA on June 26.
"CAE has a long history of industry-firsts and we are extremely
proud to add the first simulator qualified under the FAA's new Part
60 rule to this list," said Marc Parent, CAE's Group President,
Simulation Products and Military Training & Services. "We have
a long-term customer relationship with Delta and worked very
closely with them over the past couple of months to ensure this
simulator would meet the demanding requirements for qualification
under the Part 60 rule."
