We are sorry to say that another member of the group known as the Tuskegee Airmen has gone west. Dabney Montgomery, a ground crewman who was stationed in Italy with the Tuskegee Airmen in World War-Two has succumbed at the age of 93.
Montgomery, born in Selma, Alabama in 1923, was inducted into the service in 1943. While it’s common for the pilots of the Tuskegee Airmen unit to be spoken of the most, it must be remembered that like all units who fought in the war, the pilots could not have been successful without the crews that supported them. Across the world it is pretty well recognize that the one thing most people hold in common is a resistance to paying taxes. Now we see that the tax collectors in Afghanistan know how to ‘lower the hammer’ if you get behind. Safi Airways has been grounded by the Afghan Civil Aviation Authority for failure to pay about $16.7 million in taxes between March 2011 and March 2013, despite repeated warnings to do so. The 45th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta presented will host international Special Shape balloon teams as a part of the world’s premier balloon event, October 1 through 9. This year’s event will include 108 special shape balloons representing nine
countries. Special shape balloons have held a special honor at Balloon Fiesta since the premiere of the Special Shape Rodeo in 1989. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
