Disney Files Patent For Drone Detection System

Looks To Combat Those Trying To Get An Unauthorized Peek At Movie Sets And Construction Sites

The Walt Disney Company has filed a patent for a system designed to intercept drones that might by trying to get a look at their movie sets or construction on theme parks.

The Commercial Drone Detection patent would detect a drone on Disney property, make a determination about its ownership, and if it is not a company drone, track the communications frequency to intercept any still or video images and audio captured by the aircraft, according to American Business Journals.

The patent states that some drone operators "fly over private property and take unauthorized data (e.g., photos, video or audio). In certain instances, these pictures and recordings could capture sensitive information that could subsequently be broadcast to others. For example, a drone could fly over a movie production set and capture video that may give away major aspects and plot points of a film."

Disney is working on some major expansions at its theme parks. The company is also now the owner of the Star Wars and Marvel film franchises, and the company is very protective of such information before it is released.
