'I Do... Over.'

First Marriage In Space Nixed

Russian officials have put their collective foot down, saying "nyet" to history's first-ever space wedding.

Cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko was to have taken a bride from his post aboard the International Space Station on August 10th, as he soared 240 miles above the Earth in orbit. NASA officials had said "okie-dokie" to the nuptials. But officials at the Russian Space Agency cancelled the affair.

In the Izvestia newspaper, Russian officials said Malenchenko will be forbidden to marry his U.S. sweetheart, who emigrated to Texas with her parents when she was three. The couple met five years ago in Houston and have kept up a long distance relationship.

So, what's the problem? Shades of the cold war, it would seem. Russian officials said Malenchenko has access to "certain secrets" and would need special permission to change his family status.
