Yak 55M Down In Washington, Pilot Lost

Radioed PAE Tower With Rough-Running Engine

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 07.14.07 2115 EDT: The pilot of a Yakovelv 55M (file photo of type shown at bottom) was killed Saturday afternoon when the plane impacted an Everett, WA neighborhood.

Local news reports state the aircraft went down at approximately 1320 Pacific Time. The pilot radioed the tower at Paine Field (PAE) to report a rough-running engine, Everett Fire Department assistant chief Glen Martinsen told The Associated Press.

The plane crashed in a wooded area between two homes in the Rucker Hill neighborhood, about three miles northeast of Paine Field.

Investigators with the FAA and NTSB are on scene.

Seattle's KIRO-7 states the accident aircraft is registered to a Seattle man, although investigators haven't released the name of the pilot. A witness told the station she saw the engine on fire as the plane went down.

Officials could not say whether the accident aircraft was participating in the Northwest EAA Regional Fly-In, now underway in nearby Arlington.
