Pilot Fatally Injured When Plane Impacts Water Tower

Accident Occurred In Whitehall, MI

The pilot of a 1957 Taylorcraft BC12-D was fatally injured Monday when the plane impacted a water tower in Whitehall, MI while apparently in straight-and-level flight.

The Michigan news website MLive.com reports that the accident occurred just before noon Monday, according to White Lake Fire Authority Chief Gregory Holman. Whitehall Police Chief Roger Squiers said the pilot lived east of Whitehall. The media report did not identify the pilot, who police say lived "east of Whitehall". FAA records indicate that the plane was registered to William Wrobleski of Appleton, WI.

The pilot was the only occupant of the aircraft.

According to the report, the accident flight originated at Fremont Municipal Airport (KFFX) about 45 minutes before the plane impacted the water tower. A post-impact fire ensued.

Chief Squiers said that the plane appeared to be flying straight and level, and "did not veer and did not change engine speed. There did not appear to be any problem with the engine."

The water tower was shut off from the rest of the municipal water system after the accident. The water and the structure will be tested, according to Squiers.
