Gone West: Dave Richardson

Line Service Manager With Million Air Toronto, Toronto Airways

Derek Sifton, President of Million Air Toronto FBO and Toronto Airways Limited (TAL) is deeply saddened to announce that Dave Richardson (aka DR), Line Service Manager passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 17, 2010. His loss is deeply felt by the entire Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport (CYKZ) community. He was well known and respected by many in aviation from both Canada and the USA. Out of respect to him, the flags and windsock at the airport were lowered to half mast.

DR grew up in the northern Ontario mining community of Sudbury. He studied Helicopter Maintenance at North Bay College and later applied for a line service position at the Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport. Some 25 years later, he was still there, having progressed to the role of Line Service Manager. His passion for aviation and great people skills made him a well known and respected fixture at the airport. He was deeply liked and appreciated by customers and colleagues and will be sadly missed. Dave leaves behind his wife, a young daughter, 4 siblings and his parents.
