Grant County, WA, Gets AIP Grant

Moses Lake International Airport In Line For Ramp Renovations

Transportation officials in Moses Lake, WA, east of Seattle have agreed to accept an AIP grant in the amount of $3.8 million for renovation work that's needed on the Moses Lake International Airport (KMWH) ramp.

The Port of Moses Lake accepted the grant Monday, according to the Columbia Basin Herald newspaper. Port Executive Director Patrick Jones said that the rehabilitation of the 60-year-old ramp will allow the airport to accommodate aircraft as large as a fully loaded Boeing 747.

Jones said the port will put up the 10 percent match for the project, or about $432,000. The airport recently completed the rehabilitation of the asphalt section of the ramp used by smaller airplanes. This second phase of the project will involve extensive concrete work to support larger aircraft. The concrete ramp that will be renovated is right along the flight line, Jones said, and has been falling into disrepair for years.

Jones told the paper that the work is necessary to help attract new businesses to the area.
