On April 8th through April 10th, in Orlando, Florida, hundreds
attended the 53rd Annual AEA International Convention & Trade
Show; founded in 1957, the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA)
represents more than 1,300 industry affiliates associated with the
general aviation avionics and electronics systems. At AEA's 2010
'New Product Introductions,' Universal Avionics announced its
newest product in advanced avionics, the AHS-525 Attitude Heading
Reference System (AHRS).
Designed to be a low-cost solution for next generation flight
decks, the stand-alone unit utilizes Microelectromechanical Systems
(MEMS)-based technology to provide aircraft analog and digital
pitch, as well as roll and heading measurements; the advanced
system combines the computational ability of microelectronics with
the precision of microsensors to provide stunning accuracy for
pilots.
Using solid-state construction, AHS-525 integrates flight deck
displays, flight control systems, flight management systems,
weather radar, terrain awareness warning systems, flight data
recorder, as well as other additional avionics systems. When
interfaced with Universal’s Electronic Flight information
system, the AHS-525's data display and control can be directly
managed through the EFI-890R Flat Panel Displays, thus eliminating
the need for additional heading control panels.
The AHS-525 is designed to seamlessly replace analog gyros;
system installation includes the Attitude Heading Reference Unit
(AHRU), configuration module, external remote magnetometer and a
mounting plate that is permanently affixed to the aircraft.
The system features digital, analog, discrete and synchro inputs
and outputs to support a wide variety of interfaces for both Part
23 and Part 25 aircraft. Universal Avionics expects the Federal
Aviation Administration Technical Standard Order in October of
2010.
