Russian ISS Taxi Service To End In 2018

TASS: No New Contracts With NASA Will Be Pursued

The Russian Space Agency Roscosmos will not be ferrying any more U.S. Astronauts to ISS when the current agreement between that agency and NASA expires in 2018.

That's according to TASS, the official Russian news agency.

According to the report, Roscosmos Deputy Chief Sergey Saveliev told the media that the agency will honor its commitments, "but we have no plans for concluding new ones."

There have been no contracts signed that would extend the space taxi service beyond 2018, Saveliev said.

U.S. Astronauts have been riding to ISS aboard Russian spacecraft since the shuttle was decommissioned in 2012. Manned spacecraft by Boeing and SpaceX intended to take over the shuttle's previous duties are still in development.
