Goodrich To Supply New Seats for E-3 AWACS

Will Contribute To Crew Comfort and Productivity

Goodrich Corporation has won a contract to give 500 mission operators of the Air Force E-3 Airborne Warning and Control Aircraft (AWACS) a more comfortable chair when sitting at their positions.

Since the E-3 flies for hours and hours, Goodrich's Aircraft Interior Products division had been tasked with making it just a little more comfortable for the crew sitting in the back looking at radars, and twiddling all those dials and buttons. If the crews are more comfortable, they will also be sharper and less fatigued over the long hours.

According to Dave Foos, Director of Military Business Development "We are pleased to be able to add to our long-standing relationship with the U.S. Air Force by supplying our mission equipment operator seats for the E-3 AWACS. Our seat introduces improved safety and seat performance features as well as numerous commercially-derived comfort features to enhance mission crew performance during long duration flights."

Besides being a more comfortable place to put the back of flight suit, the seats are designed to withstand a dynamic force of up to 16g's. Earlier versions of the high-tech seat are already on the NATO version AWACS.

Goodrich also makes ejection seats for other aircraft, but the 500 models they're making for the E-3 are strictly built for comfort.
