Woman Threatens Flight To St. Petersburg With Bomb Claim

Mother Says Her Daughter Has History Of Mental Problems

Well, we haven't had one of these in awhile... and we certainly haven't missed it.

A Florida airport was placed on standby Thursday night after a passenger on an incoming flight claimed to have a gun and a bomb.

St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport police told Tampa Bay's Fox-13 a woman on Allegiant Air flight 864 inbound from Greensboro, NC locked herself in the plane's lavatory Thursday night, and apparently threatened to blow up the MD-80.

Sarah Ford, 24, was arrested after the plane landed safely.

A flight attendant found Ford had sprayed the lav. Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Bordner told The Associated Press the woman also apparently lit a match, or smoked a cigarette while inside the lav.

"There was no evidence of a fire once deputies got on board and began examining the plane. It was probably cigarette smoke, that's the assumption or she lit a match," he said.

Ford was being held at Pinellas County Jail on a $20,000 bond for allegedly making a bomb threat... and another $10,000 bond for one charge of criminal mischief.

The young woman reportedly has a history of mental problems, and was recently discharged from a state psychiatric facility.

Marjorie Ford told North Carolina's News & Observer her daughter suffered from paranoid delusions.
