Airbus Caps the Year with a 60-Aircraft Sale

Makes Last-Minute Money and Adds Aviation Capital Group Support to ESG Fund Initiative

Airbus has capped off 2021 with a signed memorandum of understanding for 20 A220 aircraft, and a firm contract for 40 of their A320neo aircraft.

The buyer is a Tokyo Century Corp subsidiary, Aviation Capital Group, a global full-service lessor company. The company now supports the Airbus Environmental, Social, and Governance fund initiative to contribute to sustainable aviation projects.

The newest specification of the A220 has impressed the Aviation Capital Group, bringing the latest Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines, a 50% smaller noise footprint, and an estimated 25% reduction in fuel burn compared to previous generation offerings. The corresponding drop in emissions is a convenient change for those hoping to protect their long-lasting fleets as industry goals seek ever greater reductions. The A220 now boasts NOx emission levels 50% lower than industry standards, Airbus says, making it a solid choice for even regional routes for the 100-150 seat market.

The A320s sold included 5 of the new A321XLRs, aircraft which include similar improvements to their smaller Airbus brethren. The XLr improves on the base model's endurance, resulting in a 4,700 nm range good for an average flight up to 11 hours.

The smaller A320neo still makes up the bulk of the order, however, owing to its smaller, more manageable size and operational footprint. The neo proudly sports a 99.7% operational reliability rate across the board, says the company. It features similar enhancements over legacy A320 aircraft, like aerodynamic Sharklet wing tip devices or more comfortable, wide seating even in economy. It too has been remodeled for emissions improvements, now sporting at least a 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions.

The order is another gratifying endorsement of our single aisle products by one of the world’s premier aircraft asset managers, ACG and the Tokyo Century Group. It also forcefully confirms the A220 as a growingly desirable aircraft and investment in the commercial aviation landscape. We congratulate and thank ACG for its decision to select both the A220 and A320neo Families,” said Airbus CCO Christian Scherer.
