ElectronicFlight Training Modules Accepted by the FAA

For Inspection Authorization (IA) and Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Programs

The FAA has now approved the ElectronicFlight Solutions avionics training modules on Weather, Traffic, Terrain Awareness and the Garmin GNS 530/430 as credit for the required training in the Inspection Authorization (IA) renewal program. The training modules have also been accepted as training credit in the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Awards Program, which is designed to encourage aviation maintenance technicians and their employers to take advantage of initial and recurrent training.

Upon completion of a training module, a technician will receive a certificate with the proper FAA endorsement. In both programs, each module of Weather, Traffic and Terrain count as four hours of training, while the Garmin GPS module counts as eight hours. [To renew an IA certificate under section 65.93(a)(4), an applicant must have attended, and successfully completed, acceptable refresher training of not less than 8 hours within the preceding 12 months. Technicians can now apply ElectronicFlight avionics training towards that credit.]

The AMT award program is similar, but voluntary. A five-phase award program rewards technicians for their commitment to continual education. The specific phase of an award is based on the number of training hours received. The employer is also rewarded for the level of technician participation within the maintenance facility.

The newly approved ElectronicFlight training modules provide just-in-time training for maintenance facilities without the added expense of sending technicians away to school. The PC-based software is also portable, so a technician can learn the latest avionics at home, away from work distractions.
