Plans Underway for WAI Girls in Aviation Day 2018

Worldwide outreach scheduled for October 13, 2018

Women in Aviation International’s network of more than 115 chapters, corporate members, and partners, are making their plans for individual events for Girls in Aviation Day 2018. Celebrated worldwide, Girls in Aviation Day is now in its fourth year as a global event and is designed to introduce and educate girls 8 to 17 years of age on the many career choices and lifestyle possibilities offered by the aviation/aerospace industry.

Recently, WAI’s Girls in Aviation Day was recognized as an “industry best practice” along with EAA Young Eagles and AOPA’s high school initiative in a study entitled Aviation Outreach Model and Gap Analysis: Examining Solutions to Address Workforce Shortages, conducted by Rebecca Lutte who is a Ph.D. candidate in public administration with an aviation concentration at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Lutte stated in her study: "Women in Aviation International serves as a primary example of a nonprofit organization implementing outreach that is aimed at underrepresented groups.”

Last year, an estimated 9,700 girls participated in 74 separate events worldwide. “We hope to surpass those numbers in October, and will have some exciting announcements in the weeks ahead about the plans of chapters and corporate members,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian.
