New Pact Includes Pay Raises, Flexible Scheduling, 'Quality Of Life' Improvements
Horizon Air flight attendants have approved a new five-year contract. The ratification vote concluded Thursday afternoon with 75 percent of the participating flight attendants voting in favor of the agreement.
"This contract recognizes the hard work and cooperation between the negotiating committees for the Association of Flight Attendants and the company," said Diana Shaw, Horizon Air's vice president of customer service. "This long-term contract reflects Horizon's commitment to provide good wages and benefits to our employees and also honors the excellent service our nearly 500 flight attendants provide to our customers each and every day."
The new contract includes pay raises, quality of life improvements and more flexible scheduling. The agreement becomes amendable on July 18, 2018. The previous contract became amendable on Dec. 21, 2011. Labor agreements in the airline industry do not expire; they become amendable and remain in effect until a new contract is ratified.
"This five-year agreement includes pay increases, locks in benefits, improves scheduling rules, and provides for greater flexibility and enhanced quality of life," said Lexie Graham, acting AFA President at Horizon Air. "By working together with management and with the strong support of our membership, we were able to reach an agreement that reflects our role as safety professionals."
Horizon Air is a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group and flies to 39 cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
