Drones Seen Operating At Gold Coast Commonwealth Games In Australia

Police Have Issued Four Separate Warnings Connected To The Incidents

Police in Queensland, Australia have issued four warnings about the use of drones in a restricted area where the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games are being held.

Airspace is restricted over all Commonwealth Games venues, with most extending about one nautical mile around the sites, according to the Brisbane Times. "The message from police is clear: the use of drones in the restricted airspace around venues will not be tolerated," Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said.

Police are using preventive technologies such as anti-drone guns to enforce the no-fly zones. One person has already been referred to the Civil Aviation Authority for operating a drone at Southport. Violators face fines up to $250,000 (Australian) for airspace violations.

"If you're not sure whether your flight plan is within safe airspace, then we urge you to leave your drone at home," Crawford said.
