Electric Cessna 172 Begins Taxi Tests

Engine In Development Would Replace 150-200 HP Recip Powerplants

Initial taxi tests on an electric Cessna 172 got underway last week at Centennial Airport in Englewood, CO. Beyond Aviation, formerly Bye Energy, said it is working towards developing a practical, cost-effective conversion to an environmentally friendly electric propulsion system as a replacement for internal combustion engines on aircraft requiring 150 to 200 hp.

“The past year has been challenging for our company and we are very pleased to announce that we taxied the aircraft for the first time on Friday, July 22, 2011,” said Charlie Johnson, President of Beyond Aviation. “We will be announcing our first flight date soon.” Johnson added that Beyond Aviation looks forward to continuing relationships with its key sponsors, including Beyond the Edge, Cessna Aircraft Company, Jeppesen, Garmin, Panacis, Dow Kokam, McCauley and Precision Aircraft.

Beyond Aviation is a clean energy solutions integrator for general aviation. The company is headquartered in Englewood, CO, with an additional facility at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport in Broomfield, CO.
