Allied Pilots Association: 'Deeply Grateful' for PSP Extension

PSP Will Be Extended For Six Months Through Sept. 30, 2021

The Allied Pilots Association (APA), representing the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, issued the following statement regarding the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 that President Biden signed into law this afternoon.

“We are deeply grateful to President Biden and Congress for the much-needed support the legislation provides to our nation’s airline industry,” said Capt. Eric Ferguson, President of the Allied Pilots Association. “Preserving critical infrastructure will help our economy recover more quickly as the pandemic subsides.”

Under the terms of the legislation, the Payroll Support Program (PSP) will be extended for six months through Sept. 30, 2021. After Congress approved the bill and it went to President Biden for his signature, American Airlines announced yesterday that it had canceled the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices the airline issued to 1,850 pilots in early February, ending the near-term uncertainty that pilots and other airline workers were facing.

“As pilots, we look forward to continuing to distribute essential personnel, COVID-19 vaccines, and other vital supplies around the world, and we likewise look forward to our industry’s upcoming revival,” Ferguson said.

“If you haven’t traveled for a while, we’ll be here for you when you decide it’s time — and we hope that day comes very soon.”
