Aussie Professor Needs Pilots' Help

Can You Spot A Meteor Crater For Him?

If you're flying in Australia, Graeme White needs your help. He's looking for a very big hole in the ground. Well, several of them to be specific.

The holes could have been made by a swarm of meteors which fell to the ground in a spectacular light show last week. Nearby airline crews and passengers reported the fireballs passed beside and beneath their aircraft, about 60 NM north-northeast of Mount Isa in Queensland.

"I'd like to get someone from the local aeroclub to go out there and have a look," Professor White told the Townsville Bulletin. "I thought about it over the weekend. It'd be good if someone who's got a light plane to fly out there, or someone who is going out there to divert from their normal activities to look at the place. It (the impact site) would be fairly distinctive, it will be a big spot of black and brown or a hole in the ground."

Once the craters had been spotted, White said he'd get GPS coordinates and head that way. Good on ya, mate.
