Freedom Flight 2011 Tour Schedule Announced

One Thousand Mile Flight To End At Sebring Sport Aviation Show

Beginning January 15th, two Able Flight pilots will fly more than a thousand miles to meet with wounded veterans  in four states to tell them how they can receive an Able Flight scholarship.

Heather Schultz and Sean O'Donnell were paralyzed as a result of spinal cord injuries and both earned their pilot licenses with Able Flight scholarships. Looking for a way to give back what was given to them, they have created Freedom Flight 2011.

Not only will Heather and Sean meet with wounded veterans to encourage them to become pilots  and show them the specially-adapted LSA they used for their training, they are also using the tour to help create a flight training scholarship fund to be used only for wounded veterans.  They  have already reached more than half of their $15,000 goal for two scholarships in 2011, and those funds are immediately available for a qualified candidate.

The January tour stops include:

  • Saturday the 15th at AOPA Headquarters Building at KFDK in Frederick, MD at 1030 EST, and then at Dominion Aviation in Richmond, VA (KFCI) at 1500.
  • Monday the 17th in Kennesaw, GA at Hansen Air Group on Cobb County-McCollum Field Airport (KRYY) at 1000 EST.
  • Friday the 21st in Sebring, FL at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo (KSEF) at 1100 EDT.

Tour stops at all locations are subject to weather conditions.

While the Freedom Flight 2011 tour offers an excellent opportunity for wounded veterans to get first-hand information from pilots who have been awarded scholarships and earned their licenses, they  and others can apply for an Able Flight scholarship at any time by visiting the Scholarships page  where they can download an application form.
