CAF Mississippi Wing Adds PT-19 WWII Trainer

Contest To Name Aircraft Underway

The Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force acquired a PT-19 (primary trainer).

This aircraft was built in 1943, during the World War II. Although the aircraft was brought to the wing from Nacogdoches, Texas, during the war the aircraft was stationed in Meridian, Mississippi. CAF Pilot Karl Holocomb had the honor to fly it home to Mississippi this month.

Holocomb said "It flies good! It’s docile, but being a trainer for the military, you want to learn aerobatics. They wanted to learn all those things you need to survive being a fighter pilot or a bomber pilot. Being a primary trainer, they wanted something fairly easy, but not too easy to maneuver.”

The Mississippi Wing wants to have a great new name for the aircraft. The group launched a contest asking the public to participate. Please send your suggestions to the Mississippi Wing Facebook page at Mississippi Wing. The contest winner will receive a flight in the aircraft. (Providing that he/she is able to meet the requirements to participate).

The Mississippi Wing hopes to share the airplane later on this summer at an Open House/Open Hangar event. You can stay in touch with the Mississippi Wing via their Facebook page.
