Santa Arrives - In A WWII Trainer

Only In Palm Springs

Rudolph and Prancer were nowhere to be seen, as nearly 200 children impatiently awaited the arrival of their favorite man in red at the Palm Spring Air Museum Saturday.

They were rewarded first with the noise of a 1943 Boeing Stearman engine, and then with Santa, himself, dressed in his traditional regalia, as the biplane taxied to the Air Museum (where the temperature reached the low 70s).

"It was a long, cold flight," said Jim Dale, the museum's chief pilot, as his international celebrity passenger made himself comfortable in a tent to hear Christmas wishes and give out small airplanes.

One ten-year old, according to the Desert Sun, called Santa's arrival by plane "too modern."

"I like the primitive way; I was hoping he would come out with his reindeers."
