Airborne 04.24.20: Corsair 4 Sale!, CAF Spirit Flight, Virgin Australia

Also: Gogo Layoffs, Sporty's Headset Test Flights, Robinson Delivers, Cessna Citation Latitudes

Life is not fair... every now and then, we see a note about an aircraft for sale... and we want it... we want it bad... but none so much as a Corsair. And... it just so happens that a stunning 1951 Chance Vought F-4U-5N Corsair has hit the market.

Bu. Num 123168, VH-III... with a price tag of $3,450,000 (plus tax...). It's got an interesting pedigree. According to PFS, "Built in 1951 for the US Navy. Its US Navy history is currently being researched. Bu. Num 123168 was delivered to the FA Hondurena in March 1956 as FAH603. In 1979 the Honduran Military decided to sell all their ageing fleet of seven remaining Corsair Fighters. An American company, Hollywood Wings Inc., acquired these, all the spares and all remaining non airworthy Corsair airframes were ferried and shipped to the USA. The Big Easy Wing of the Commemorative Air Force launched its first "Spirit Flight" over the skies of New Orleans on Good Friday. The flight took the Archbishop of New Orleans, Gregory Aymond, over the city to bless the citizens of Metropolitan New Orleans during this pandemic crisis and later, Rabbi Alexis Erdheim with Gates of Prayer Synagogue took a Spirit Flight, as well. Virgin Australia has entered voluntary administration to 'recapitalise the business and help ensure it emerges in a stronger financial position on the other side of the COVID-19 crisis.' The decision comes as the Group has continued to seek financial assistance from a number of parties, including State and Federal Governments, to help it through the unprecedented crisis, however is yet to secure the required support. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
