Aero-News Featured Aero-Casts For Wednesday 08.30.06

The Latest On The Investigation Of Comair Flight 5191

The FAA has reportedly admitted the tower at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, KY was understaffed when a Comair CRJ-100 attempted to take-off from the wrong runway on Sunday. 49 of the 50 people on board were killed in the crash. Only the copilot... who was actually handling the take-off... survived. He's still in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Hospital.

The NTSB says the FAA tower manager told her investigators having just one controller on duty has been considered standard operating procedure for almost a decade. But CNN has obtained an FAA memo dated last November, which says a minimum of two controllers are needed in that tower at all times: one to handle controller functions... the other to deal with administrative and other duties.

We now listen in on the latest NTSB briefing from Lexington... and board member Debbie Hersman.

This feature is in addition to our daily news briefing -- available in either a quick "Touch And Go" format, or an expanded Aero-Briefing -- where you'll hear these stories:

The FAA admits... there should have been two in the tower at Lexington...

NASA rolls the shuttle in... and rolls it out again... all in the same day.

And talk about a miracle in the sky... a glider and a jet collide over Nevada... and everybody walks away....

...And more
