Woman Killed In Bizarre Hangar Door Accident

Metal Section Falls While Closing

An employee with a Gainesville, FL fixed-base operator was killed Monday, when a sliding metal hangar door apparently separated from its tracks as she was closing it.

Cindy Kilgore, 41, was an aircraft lineman for University Air Center. She and another worker had moved an aircraft from the hangar, and were closing the doors when one of the sections came down on her.

Airport spokeswoman Michelle Danisovsky told The Gainesville Sun it appeared the door fell from its hinges for as-yet undetermined reasons. Kilgore was rushed to Shands at the University of Florida hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the Monday morning incident as an accident.

University Air Center provides FBO, air charter, and flight training services at Gainesville Regional Airport. The hangar where the accident occurred was previously operated by now-defunct air taxi operator DayJet.
