Forty Greenville County Students To Discover Flight

Contest Launched By Greenville Downtown Airport

Forty Greenville County middle or high school students will be awarded a Discovery Flight in the Discovery Flight Contest being conducted by Greenville Downtown Airport and Airwolf Aviation Services.

Before entering ninth grade students are required to choose a cluster of study.  It can always be changed but the sooner they discover their interests the more that they can benefit from their educational experience.  One cluster is Transportation, Distribution and Logistics which encompasses the aviation industry.  Predictions indicate that a large numbers of new air traffic controllers, aircraft maintenance techs and airline pilots will be needed in the future.

"Our industry foresees a future shortage of trained workers," stated Joe Frasher, Airport Director for the Greenville Downtown Airport.  "We hope that this contest will encourage students to look into our industry and consider pursuing a career within it," added Frasher.  The aviation industry forecasts that there is going to be a huge shortage of pilots and aircraft mechanics in the future, partially because of all the former military pilots who are scheduled to retire.
