Chelton Flight Systems Releases New Software

EFIS Software Version 6.0 For Experimental Aircraft

A new software version for Chelton Flight Systems EFIS-SV Sport has been released at Oshkosh Airventure 2005. Version 6.0 for experimental aircraft will be the basis for software to be used in aircraft certified in the transport category which will become available in 2006.

The new software adds several new features to improve the safety and performance of the Chelton EFIS including: shaded-relief terrain using relative elevation-based coloring using colors that are compatible with the real time display of weather; A new basic training mode that starts with less features and simpler graphics and adds features and detail as the pilot gains proficiency; Interface to WSI real time weather with graphical displays of METARS, TFRs, TAFS, winds and temperatures aloft, graphic AIRMET and SIGMET when installed with the av-100 receiver and WSI in flight subscription.

A significant improvement to the VNAV autopilot control provides the first digital EFIS/autopilot combination with both LNAV and VNAV coupling for the experimental market. The EFIS VNAV mode now provides low speed envelope protection, preventing the aircraft from slowing to stall speed.

Chelton's Kirk Hammersmith said "We've been flight testing this combination for several months, and are very excited about bringing this level of safety and control to the experimental market. Flying a full procedure turn ILS followed by a missed approach with a parallel entry to a holding pattern without ever touching the controls is truly amazing."

Chelton also announced that their series II autopilot is available and is compatible with the version 6.0 software.
