No Rules Broken In Navy Berkeley Buzz

F/A-18E Super Hornet Made A Low Pass Over The Campus In January

The pilot of an F/A-18E Super Hornet did not break any rules when he made a low pass over the Berkeley campus in California back in January, according to a statement released by the Navy.

According to the statement, the pilot complied with all FAA and Navy rules and regulations for altitude and flight path, according to the statement from Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the pilot is not completely off the hook. A Field Naval Aviator Evaluation Board has been recommended to "examine the aeronautical judgement of the aviator during the flight." Such a board is not judicial or disciplinary, but can recommend whether a pilot "should retain flight status," and recommendations become part of the aviators personnel record. They cannot be publicly released.

A commenter on the Berkeleyside website said the pilot was his brother, and he "thought it could be cool to fly over campus" before heading to a new duty assignment in Texas.
