Sierra Industries Conducts First Test Engine Runs For Super II

Modification Adds Williams FJ44-3A Turbofans To Citation 550

Sierra Industries tells ANN the company recently achieved a development milestone in its latest FJ44 re-engining program for the Citation II. The first engine runs were completed at Sierra's Uvalde, TX modification center, following diagnostic tests and engineering reviews involving both Williams International representatives and FAA certification personnel.

The Super II FJ44-3A engines were run multiple times through a complete range of tests including prolonged operation at full power. All systems (hydraulic, electrical, environmental and FADEC) were tested with excellent results clearing the aircraft for first flight anticipated within a week.

"It was very exciting to see the engines run after an intensive development program," said Sierra President and CEO Mark Huffstutler. "I am especially proud that not only are we developing the program in full cooperation with Williams International and the FAA but that all systems were operational on this first run. We will soon be flying this Super II and are on target to achieve FAA certification by the end of the year."

The Super II development program builds on Sierra's Eagle II and Stallion modifications, both of which feature Williams International FJ44 turbofan engines. FAA certification is expected by the end of the year; the company notes it has produced 40 FJ44 re-engined Citations in the last five years.

As ANN reported, Super II involves adding 2820 lb. thrust, FADEC Williams FJ44-3 engines to the Cessna 550 Citation II model -- resulting in an increase of 1000 lbs. of thrust and over 400 miles range.
