Classic Aero-TV: Smarter Than We Are–Best Tugs Tackles Serious Aircraft Movement

Best Tugs Echo Can Move Nearly Anything

Best Tugs showcased its new Echo line of tugs at NBAA-BACE last month. The line includes three variants that can move all types of vehicles, including airplanes, helicopters, boats and trailers weighing up to 18,000 pounds.

The tugs feature power steering, an optional wireless winch that can be controlled from Echo's helm or via a Bluetooth control as you work near the loading tray, and a built-in radio to keep crews up to date on where tugs with certain capabilities/attachments are located and where they are needed. Operators can listen to incoming traffic to identify aircraft and quickly switch back to the ground frequency using the on board touch screen.

Other features include: Pulse-Width Modulation which is the technology used to give your tug full torque and power at any speed. Even at a crawl, you will have the full power of the tug at your disposal. Tug Smart to monitor the torque being used to make sure there is no chance of damaging an airplane's nose gear. Patented Prop Safe Design which is designed to prevent prop strikes, even on sharp turns or pivots. It changes starting your plane with the tug still attached from a costly accident into nothing more than an embarrassing mishap.
