FAA Investigating A Second Air Canada Landing AT KSFO

Crew Given Instructions To Go Around After Being Cleared To Land, Landed Anyway

The FAA is investigating an incident involving an Air Canada jet landing at San Francisco International Airport (KSFO) for the second time in a year.

Television station KGO reports that the flight, which was inbound from Montreal Sunday night, was initially cleared to land, but then was given instructions to go around due to a possible conflict on the runway. The go around order was given five times in 30 seconds, according to the report, but it was not acknowledged by the flight crew.

A tower supervisor then used a flashing red light directed at the aircraft to tell them to abort their landing, but that was also ignored.

The plane landed safely at about 2130 local time.

In a recording of the radio exchange, the pilots can be heard telling the tower that they were having a problem with their radios. "That's pretty evident," the controller said.

The incident is being investigated by both the FAA and Air Canada.

In July, an Air Canada airplane nearly landed on a crowded taxiway at KSFO, coming within 60 feet of touching down before executing a missed approach.
