Queensland, Australia Opens Consultation On First-Ever Drones Strategy

Invites Comments From The Public To Help Direct Future Policy

The Palaszczuk Government will implement Australia’s first whole-of-government Drones Strategy to address the business opportunities and regulatory challenges for this growing industry. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk released a consultation paper on the future of drone technology in Queensland while officially opening of the inaugural World of Drones Congress in Brisbane.

The Premier encouraged all Queenslanders to have their say on the Queensland Drones Strategy Consultation Paper, to help direct future policy and take full advantage of the potential of drones in supporting economic and jobs growth. “My Government wants to take drone technologies to the next level and to see Queensland become a world leader in drone investment, research and development,” the Premier said. “Our highly skilled workforce, world-class research and development capabilities, technical expertise and Advance Queensland initiative has already put us in a very strong position, but to achieve this vision we need to work together.

“Our whole-of-government Drones Strategy will be the first of its kind in Australia, and will help to ensure we have the right policies and programs in place to back future technologies and create jobs. To ensure we get it right, we need everyone to have their say – business, industry, research and the community,” she said.

“We need to ensure industry can thrive, our research and development opportunities are maximised, our rights are protected and investment continues to flow into Queensland.”

Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy Leeanne Enoch said the World of Drones Congress was the perfect opportunity to start the conversation. “For the first time ever, the inaugural World of Drones Congress will provide an international forum for everyone concerned with drones – from businesses to governments, investors to enthusiasts,” Ms Enoch said. “It will provide an ideal platform for business matching, industry development and commercialisation and will position Queensland as an attractive investment destination.”

The World of Drones Congress will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre between 31 August and 2 September 2017. It is expected delegations will come from Australia, China, United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom.
