Greenwing Gets Certified

Unique Is As Yuneec Does

By Gene Yarbrough

Greenwing International announced their partnership with Yuneec Inc. Greenwing has assumed the rights to the Flightstar line of ultralights. Greenwing has added electric propulsion with the Yuneec 24kw system to the e280 ESpyder  and has received German DULV certification allowing sales into the European market.

The eSpyder, marketed at $39,900 for a turnkey unit, is estimated to have an operating cost of $1.60 per hour in electricity. Barger reported the eSpyder to be the first all-electric ultralight to receive worldwide certification.

The company flew two of the eSpyders during the Thursday air show at AirVenture in what was billed as the worlds first formation flight by a pair of electric-powered airplanes.

In other news the company reported that their all composite e430 LSA offering, which they showcased at Airventure in 2009, is in testing with serial number 8 first flight Thursday. Greenwing's Eric Barger said they expect to have DULV certification in the next few months and the company is waiting on pending ASTM revisions to pursue FAA LSA certification. The company expects to bring the e430 to the US market in 2014 depending of FAA actions.
