While at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo 2014, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell talked with George Weber, the President of Lockwood Aviation.
Their conversation was about Lockwood’s fabulous AirCam airplane and how to be more comfortable in the rear cockpit. To say that an AirCam is “open cockpit” is a bit of an understatement, and Lockwood has developed a new partial enclosure for the rear cockpit. Let’s face it, sometimes it gets cold!
The airflow around the front cockpit has always been pretty good. It’s the one in back that gets the turbulent airflow. The enclosure modification comes as a complete ready to install kit. It does a great job shielding the rear seat rider and actually improves the aerodynamics a bit. With the enclosure installed, the airplane can cruise at the same speeds with less power.
The AirCam was originally developed for special-purpose missions and this modification broadens the scope of its capabilities. This video shows the unique installation and Weber explains the development process.
