Amphibious SeaMax Wins SLSA Airworthiness Certification

Company Logs Its First Flying Boat Delivery In US

SeaMax USA told ANN Monday of the recent S-LSA certification of its amphibious aircraft, as well as the first delivery of a customer plane in the United States. The company believes this is the first flying boat delivery to a retail customer certified under the ASTM standards.

The presentation to Jay L. Cutler of Canton, OH (shown above) followed more than a year’s certification effort by SeaMax USA working with AirMax, the Brazilian designer and manufacturer. In addition to other models they produce, AirMax reported delivering 33 SeaMax amphibs worldwide in 2007.

SeaMax USA says its amphibious aircraft is now in stock certified as a Special Light-Sport Aircraft (SLSA) seaplane with electric retractable landing gear. The Brazilian design has 73 aircraft flying around the world, but is available in the United States -- just in time for summer.

"We have brand-new aircraft in stock and more on order," said SeaMax USA director, Carlos Bessa. "We will have aircraft for pilots wishing to enjoy float flying this summer. Since SeaMax is amphibious, you can operate as an efficient land plane as well."

ANN first reported on the composite-bodied SeaMax in January 2007. The company states the aircraft stalls at 36 mph with electric flaps, can cruise 115 mph using less than four gallons-per-hour of premium auto gas or 100LL fuel, climbs 1,000 fpm, lifts off water in 350 feet, and handles lightly throughout its range.

The aircraft will be featured later this month at the Florida Aviation Expo in Punta Gorda, as well as next month's Lakeland 2008 event.
