Beach Aviation Services To Hold Inaugural 'Salute Our Heroes' Fly-By

Event April 5 To Feature Prominent Retired USAF Officers Who Served At The Former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base

Beach Aviation Services in Horry County, SC will host the inaugural Salute Our Heroes Fly-By event on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach International Airport’s General Aviation Terminal (MYR).

Developed as a means to pay tribute to those who served in the United States Air Force (USAF) and were stationed at the (now-redeveloped) Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, Salute Our Heroes will host: General Robert H. Reed, USAF (Ret); Colonel Charles M. Thrash, USAF (Ret); and Colonel James Barton, USAF (Ret). As part of the event, these retired leaders will meet with attendees and discuss their careers and service to the United States. Local and regional pilots, as well as pilots passing through the area are welcome to attend this event.

In addition, for the first 50 planes that fly in, Shell Aviation will donate $10 per plane to the United Service Organizations (USO) in honor of our military veterans and those currently serving.

For the event, a traditional southern barbecue will be served, along with the fare that accompanies it, only at MYR on April 5. In addition, the Horry County Department of Airports will be offering a fuel discount of $0.20 per gallon on self-serve and full-service options at both MYR and CRE (Grand Strand Airport, North Myrtle Beach) from April 4 through April 12.

Also, for those with a passion for golf, there will be a chance to win a three-day/two-night Myrtle Beach golf vacation courtesy of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. The vacation includes three rounds of golf for four people on some of the most coveted courses along the Grand Strand, including: The Dunes Club; Tidewater Golf Resort; Caledonia Golf & Fish Club; True Blue Golf Plantation; Heritage Plantation; and Glen Dornoch. Those interested, but unable to attend the event, can register at www.myrsalutes.com. The winner will be announced on April 13, 2016.

“We are pleased to be holding our inaugural Salute Our Heroes event because it gives those who attend the chance to meet and talk with some impressive and prominent leaders who served at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base,” said Pat Apone, director of airports for Horry County. “It is also very exciting to be able to partner with Shell Aviation and Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday to encourage our local community and pilots on their way down to SUN ‘n FUN International Fly In and Expo to add a stop at MYR to their flight plan on April 5. We’re looking forward to this event and are certain those who attend will enjoy their time with us.”
