Allegiant Expands Orlando Routes, Upgrades Aircraft

Orlando Airport Calls Route Expansion The Largest In Its History

Allegiant airlines is set to begin flying nonstop routes to nine additional medium markets from Orlando Sanford International Airport (KSFB), which airport authorities say is the largest expansion in the airport's history.

In conjunction with this expansion, Allegiant will introduce a new aircraft type to their fleet operating from Orlando Sanford. The 177-seat Airbus A320 will be added to their current fleet of 166-seat MD-80 aircraft later this fall. The A320s are quieter and more fuel efficient than MD-80s, as well as can operate off shorter runways at other airports and fly nonstop to nearly any city in the continental U.S. from SFB.

According to Larry Dale, Orlando Sanford International Airport President/CEO, "These additional destinations represent the largest route expansion in our history and a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase both Allegiant and SFB to Central Florida and a host of new markets. We are also very excited about the introduction of the Airbus 320s into their fleet mix here, and continue to be impressed with Allegiant's exponential growth in today's market."

These new markets increase the total number of nonstop destinations from Orlando Sanford offered by Allegiant from 43 to 52, a 20% boost.

“We are pleased to bring more convenient, low-cost travel options to more communities,” said Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President.
