Fire Destroys Hangar, Plane At KFOM

Residence Also Lost In Two-Alarm Blaze

A fire at Utah's Fillmore Municipal Airport last Friday quickly grew into a two-alarm inferno, destroying a hangar and the plane inside.

Salt Lake City's KUTV-2 reports crews from the Fillmore Fire Department arrived onscene just before 10 pm Friday night -- but by that time, the fire had already engulfed the hangar. The fire department from nearby Holden also responded to assist firefighters.

In all, seven fire engines responded to the scene -- but it wasn't enough to save the hangar, nor the Cessna T206U owned by Millard County held inside. A motorcycle and attached residence were also destroyed in the blaze.

Officials believe an electrical problem started the blaze, but had not yet isolated were the trouble began.

Incidentally, Milliard County officials report there was a similar fire at Fillmore Airport about 20 years ago. That fire destroyed a mobile home that the airport manager lived in -- and the residence built to replace that structure was the one that burned Friday.
