Universal Avionics EFI-890R Display Suite Available Soon For Dash 8

Flat Panel Display Systems For Q-Series Flight Decks

Field Aviation of Canada has chosen Universal Avionics' EFI-890R Flat Panel Display Systems to fulfill the flight deck component of its Dash 8 (Q-Series) Modernization Program. The program will feature a five-panel EFI-890R display suite including Primary Flight, Navigation and Engine Displays, dual Vision-1 Synthetic Vision, Radio Control Units and WAAS/SBAS-Flight Management Systems. Universal Avionics is expected to have the final software and hardware design package available for installation and certification mid-2010. Integration and installation will be completed by Field Aviation.

The new flight deck will be available to operators of non-EFIS and EFIS Dash 8/Q-Series 100, 200 and 300 aircraft. A full-scale working flight deck mock-up/demonstrator displayed by Field Aviation will be on hand at the 2010 Q-Series Operators Conference and Tradeshow in Toronto, Canada, June 14-18.

This EFI-890R Dash 8 flight deck features two large-format Primary Flight Displays, two Navigation Displays and a dedicated Engine Display, similar in arrangement to current-production Q400 aircraft. Dual Application Server Units supporting Jeppesen Charts, Checklists, Edocs, and Video can be displayed on the Navigation Display or dedicated side-mounted displays and will be offered as an option. The dedicated Engine Display replaces the existing electromechanical individual instruments with a single screen with dual-channel redundancy, significant reduction in maintenance costs and back-up display.

Operators will benefit from enhanced level of safety and situational awareness provided by the flat panel displays and synthetic vision system. Unique special-mission operations features for the increasing number of classic Qs migrating to those roles are supported.

Dual Universal WAAS/SBAS-FMS as integrated supports the ability to operate within all new worldwide Space-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) airspace and fully-coupled Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) approaches.
